DNA was extracted from fresh soil samples using the MP FastDNA SPIN Kit for soil (MP Biomedicals, LLC, Ohio, USA) as per manufacturer’s instructions. DNA purity and concentration were determined using a NanoDrop spectrophotometer (NanoDrop Technologies Inc., Wilmington, DE, USA). DNA was freeze dried before shotgun sequencing of metagenomic DNA using an Illumina HiSeq 2500 platform (Illumina, Inc., San Diego, CA, USA) at the Novogene (Tianjin, China).
