All amplicons per time point and replicate were pooled on a mass basis to yield 18 amplicon pools in total: 16S rRNA : narG : napA : nrfA : nirS : nirK = 46 : 15 : 21 : 10 : 8. Adaptamers including barcodes were ligated to amplicon pools for sequencing library generation according to standard protocols prior to paired-end sequencing on a Illumina MiSeq platform utilizing V2 chemistry (2 x 250 bp).
