Organisms Salvia bowleyana
Description Salvia bowleyana ( Salvia bowleyana Dunn) is a traditional Chinese medicine that has a broad range of therapeutic effects, which has a thick main root and can be used as a substitute for Salvia miltiorrhiza. S. bowleyana and S. miltiorrhiza, as a similar morphology, belonging to the genus Salvia Linn from Lamiaceae (Labiatae), became a potential model for medicinal plant because of its high medicinal components. The content of Sal B in S.bowleyana (74.2 mg/g) is the highest among water-soluble phenolic acids, accounting for about 70% content, and highter than S. miltiorrhiza (67.90 mg/g) significantly. Sal B is the predominant active ingredient for cardiomyocyte damage, cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and myocardial infarction, and considered as a marker component of S.bowleyana in the official Chinese pharmacopoeia.
