Another Name: Fatty liver disease

Disease Description: An abnormal accumulation of lipids in the liver which leads to liver failure. Common in miniature schnauzers and Shetland sheepdogs.

Disease Symptom: Some symptoms that may suggest canine fatty liver disease include:Excessive drooling;Loss of appetite and rapid weight loss;Vomiting, constipation or diarrhea;Jaundice – yellowing of gums, eyes and ears;Stress and depression

Disease Diagnose: -

Treat Method: The veterinarian will recommend putting the dog on a restricted high protein diet. It solely consists of milk-based proteins or soy-based proteins for enough energy supply. A protein rich diet also prevents build-up of fats by liver cells through stimulating them to release any excessive fat. Clean water supply will help flush toxins from the body.
