Description |
MiR408 is highly conserved among different plant species that targets the transcripts for copper-containing proteins. The functions of miR408 in reproductive development remain unclear despite its importance at seedling stage is well known in Arabidopsis. Transgenic Arabidopsis with elevated miR408 expression revealed a significant increase in plant morphology, such as leaf area, leaf petiole length, plant height, flower size, and silique length, and thus resulting in increased biomass production and seed yield, suggesting that miR408-mediated development might represent a common mechanism in flowering plants and that miR408 can be of potential interest as a candidate gene for the domestication of new agricultural crops. |
