Organisms Antheraea pernyi
Description The oak silkworm, Antheraea pernyi, is the second most important lepidopteran economic insect after the domesticated silkworm, Bombyx mori. It oligophagously feeds on Quercus leaves outdoors by means of semi-domestication and produces silk cocoon. The larval epidermis has different colours, attracting tourists every year. Today, it has been developed as an important source of raw silk, insect nutrients for human consumption and biomedical applications. The genome provide valuable resource for important gene mining, molecular breeding and deeper comparative genomics study.
