Title gene expression in adipose tissues of pig
Relevance Model organism
Data types Transcriptome or Gene expression
Organisms Sus scrofa
Description We cultured the lean pig breed Danish-Landrace and the obese breed Min pig to characterize the developmental process of adipose tissues at the juvenile and the juvenile-to-adult stages. Using RNA-seq experiment, we isolated subcutaneous adipose tissues derived from 4-week pigs and 16-week pigs and identified 24,718 of expressed transcription unites. Of which, 6,327 genes were differentially expressed between breeds and/or between developmental stages. Compared with the obese pigs, the up-regulated genes in the lean pig breeds showed significantly function and pathway enrichment in fatty acid degradation and mitochondrial functions. Further analysis uncovered the distinct usage preferences of the three PPARγ alternative promoters associated with the developmental process of adipose tissues in the two breeds.
